OH MEME. I AM AN OPEN BOOK. SILLY MEME.

"The problem with LiveJournal, Dreamwidth, and blogs in general: we all think we are so close, but really, we know nothing about each other. So, I want you to ask me something you think you should know about me. Something that perhaps should be obvious (or not), but you have no idea about. Ask away!"

So it is not very likely, but if anyone has any questions no matter how banal or shockingly inappropriate, ask and I will tell you, all truth all the time, bretheren.

My awesome factor is predicated entirely on my ability to induce Stockholm Syndrome in others.

I'm just going to jump right in and ask it; your most embarrassing moment?

In my first year of university I met a bunch of people at the student union and when they were about to leave, I expressed my sadness and one of them invited me to come back to the house they all lived in.

We were walking out the bar when one of the group turned around, looked at me and asked:

"Are you following us?"

"Yes," I said, cheerfully.

"Don't," they said.

And then they all left. While I stood there. At the front of this bar. Surrounded by people who had just seen the whole thing.

...I have the overwhelming urge to find these people and rip out their vital organs.

And then eat them with a nice glass of chianti.

As a punishment for your question that made me feel utterly silly, back at you: what is your masterplan in life? ;D

Ah! Your answer wasn't silly. It's incredibly tricky question and I DID NOT THINK THAT IT COULD BE TURNED ON ME. WOE.

I am going to work very hard and learn a whole bunch at Uni. Get my BA.

Marry [livejournal.com profile] unsettledink and make a home together.

Get my MA. Get my Ph.D

Write academic books about literature that get referenced in other academic books and papers and become a brilliant, respected lecturer.

TRAVEL THE WORLD.

discover a secret code in an ancient tome in a dusty archive somewhere and get embroiled in an adventure involving international espionage, black magic and the END OF THE WORLD.

I grant you, some of these are more likely to come about than others.

I think all of them, the likely and the unlikely ones, are very beautiful and you should definitely do all of that. <3 Although, do warn me if the end of the world is nigh.

Don't worry. If it looks like things are gonna end badly I'm gonna build an ark. :D

Oh wow, didn't know you were planning on becoming a DOCTOR Viceindustrious ^_~. Shall I start making the evil scientist jokes now...? Or wait until you've unveiled your master weapon at your Ph.D graduation ceremony?

What is it that you like about slash?

From: [identity profile] viceindustrious.livejournal.com
This is a very tricky question. Look at it. It APPEARS to be so very simple and yet I can't think how to answer it. Damn.

Short version: It's hot.

Long version: I don't like slash all the time. I like it when passionate relationships with interesting dynamics can be moved into a sexual arena, or the implication that part of the tension involved is sexual and or/romantic. Because I am A) a romantic and B) a scurrilous libertine.

In what country do you live, and to what countries have you traveled?

BTW, I've posted the same meme!

I live in England!

And I'm not very well travelled, although I love travelling and want to do more of it when I have the chance. I've been to Italy, Germany, France, Belgium and the Netherlands.

Hoping to go to America next!

You're more well traveled than most Americans, that's for sure! I've been to all the countries you mentioned as well.

If you do come to America, you must come to California, where I live!

Are you Batman?

Does it upset you when/if people assume you're a girl here on l'internetz? Why or why not?

Date: 2011-09-27 07:42 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] viceindustrious.livejournal.com
It doesn't really bother me. The fanfiction community on LJ is largely female (I think), so I completely understand why someone would make the assumption.

On a lot of other sites, the opposite is true and I've seen people get really obnoxious when they find out some poster they presumed was a guy is actually a girl. They'll start treating them differently - hitting on them or not taking them as seriously or asking for pics etc.

When someone on here finds out I'm a man, it's not a big deal.

What's your evil masterplan to take over the world? Does it include zombie-aliens? If not, can it include them? :D

...aaand since I've always wanted to ask this but never quite got around to it: why Paradise Lost? Interpret that in any way you like.

Date: 2011-09-27 07:58 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] viceindustrious.livejournal.com
No way! Get your zombie aliens away from me! They seem like they would be a very unreliable force to work with. What happens once the world is conquered? I've got tides of ravenous zombie aliens wandering around dropping rotting antennae everyone. Sounds like a mess.

When I was thirteen or so, I was fascinated with the occult and magic and theology and any kind of esoterism I could lay my hands on. I was also a little rebel, completely full of myself and I loved to read.

The antagonists were always my favourite characters. Nothing has changed there! I was really interested in Biblical mythology too. Satan seemed like a fabulous hero. Misunderstood.

So. Paradise Lost. :D

In the most beautiful language and with the most wonderful imagery, when I was younger and I was fascinated with picking the meaning out of the lines, it was this process of de-coding. Milton's rebel angels! So inspirational, values to inspire to, amazing. It's this epic story about the noble struggle of this ultimate antagonist. With the added bonus that you can easily argue that Satan is not a villain at all. I mean, it's nuanced, there are a hundred arguments you could make each way, which is another reason I love it.

The first piece of fanfiction I ever wrote was about Paradise Lost actually. :3

But but but it's zombie-aliens D: You could ship them off into space and conquer the universe. Then again, rotting dropping antennae may not be that great, so meh.

So does that mean you aren't interested in the occult anymore? Or just not as much?

Date: 2011-09-28 08:47 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] viceindustrious.livejournal.com
Oh no! I am just as interested! But now it's more from an aesthetic or a literary or a philosophical point of view. When I was a little kid I wanted to be a sorcerer.

I always wanted to study the subject in more detail, but I haven't had much a chance yet.

If you could have a super power, what would it be and why?

Date: 2011-09-27 08:01 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] viceindustrious.livejournal.com
I feel like this is a very boring answer, but it is the most OBVIOUS one and for good reason! I am always astonished that people could pick anything else.

Mind control. Mind control gets you everything else. Anything you could want, practically. There are limitless possibilities, limitless I tell you!

Mind control is a super creepy super power though, because of course, it's essentially violating someone on a ridiculously personal level.
